The story of our name
Nora is this land's ancient name.
The second half of Agronora is not a marketing invention. Nora was a mountain fortress and town of ancient Cappadocia, on the Lycaonian frontier. The geographer Strabo knew it as Neroassos and recorded that it served as a treasury for the rulers of the day.
The fortress became a stage in the struggle between the generals who divided Alexander the Great's empire. Besieged by Antigonus, Eumenes spent an entire winter behind Nora's walls and came out of the siege alive. This land taught endurance early.
The city's remains are thought to lie at Gelin Tepe, near Güzelyurt — the district neighbouring the Çiftlik orchards where we work today. The Nora in our name was not found in a meeting room — it was found in the history of the soil our apples grow in.
